After taking suo moto cognizance of consumer complaints regarding recent fire incidents involving electric two-wheelers, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued notices to four to five electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers.
PTI quoted CCPA Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare as saying, “We have asked them to provide reasons for a series of fire incidents in EVs and why the regulator should not take action against them.” Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport And Highways, recently stated that the ministry had issued show cause notices to two-wheeler EV manufacturers involved in the fire incidents. According to Khare’s most recent statement on the subject, the other relevant ministries are also looking into the matter. The rising number of EV fires has raised questions about whether the sold products passed the standard testing manuals, as some incidents resulted in fatalities, according to the regulator’s chief.
