Centre issued blocking orders for several “Innocuous” Tweets

Twitter, which is involved in a legal battle with the Centre over some of the takedown orders issued by it, told the Karnataka High Court on Monday (September 26) that 50%-60% of tweets that the government asked it to block were “innocuous.”

Senior advocate Arvind Datar appeared in court for Twitter, telling the court that the social media giant has followed the rules outlined in the Information Technology Act and that it is concerned about the government ordering the blocking of entire accounts rather than individual tweets, according to news agency PTI. In July, the microblogging platform filed a lawsuit in court, challenging the Indian government’s orders to block certain accounts, URLs, and tweets. Twitter has requested a judicial review of the content removal orders, citing a violation of free speech.
