The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) directed YouTube last week to block 45 videos from 10 channels because they were harmful to the country’s sovereignty and integrity, security and public order, and friendly relations with foreign states.
The content that came under government scrutiny contained fake news and morphed videos created with the intent of spreading hatred among religious communities, according to a statement issued by the ministry on Monday (September 26). Some of the videos contained cartographic errors that could jeopardise India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity: Govt. The blocked videos had over 13 million views in total.
