The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) intends to issue a consultation paper on the issue of the converging technological environment in the midst of ongoing regulatory reforms in new emerging sectors.
According to Hindu Business Line, the sector regulator believes that handling a sector by different ministries is not in the best interests of the sector. It also believes that the Digital Communication Commission should handle policy issues concerning data centres, content delivery networks, and internet exchange points. It should be noted that TRAI recently issued a recommendation paper proposing the formation of a body called the Data Digitisation and Monetisation Council.
