Snapchat’s latest feature, My AI, powered by OpenAI’s GPT technology, has received a lot of negative feedback from users since its global launch last week. The feature is a chatbot that answers users’ questions in real-time, and it is pinned to the top of the app’s Chat tab, meaning that it cannot be removed or blocked by users.
This placement has led to a spike in negative reviews and complaints on social media. According to data from app intelligence firm Sensor Tower, the average U.S. App Store review for Snapchat over the past week was 1.67, with 75% of reviews being one-star.
This is in contrast to the average U.S. App Store review for Snapchat in Q1 2023, which was 3.05, with only 35% of reviews being one-star. Apptopia, another app data provider, reports that “AI” was the top keyword in Snapchat’s App Store reviews over the past seven days, with an “Impact Score” rating of -9.2.
Many users are upset that My AI appeared in their app without their consent and cannot be removed or unpinned. Some are even threatening to quit Snapchat and delete the app entirely. Additionally, users are unhappy that removing the My AI feature from their Chat feed requires a Snapchat+ subscription, which many feel is unfair.
The negative feedback comes at a time when many companies are looking to integrate AI into their businesses. While dozens of AI chatbot apps are filling the app stores and raking in millions of dollars, Snapchat’s My AI has failed to impress users.
Snapchat has not yet responded to the negative feedback, but it remains to be seen whether the company will make changes to the My AI feature in response to user complaints. For now, many users are unhappy with the feature and are calling for it to be optional or removable.
