Speed dating revives as Dubai singles abandon tinder and bumble

Dubai, once a stronghold of dating apps like Tinder and Bumble, is witnessing a resurgence of interest in speed dating and in-person encounters. Frustrated by the monotony of endless swiping and shallow conversations that rarely lead to real-life meetings, singles in Dubai are seeking more meaningful connections and turning to alternative avenues to find genuine romance.

After enduring the prolonged COVID lockdown in 2020 and subsequent restrictions, Dubai residents craved social interaction, leading to the launch of Mingle Dxb nearly two years ago. Since then, this monthly dating event has experienced a remarkable surge in popularity, attracting an ever-growing number of participants.

“We’re different from the apps. We offer a tangible alternative to the endless swiping experience. Nearly everyone we speak to, regardless of whether they attend our events, expresses disillusionment and frustration with the existing dating apps,” shared Paul Hart, the founder of Mingle Dxb, in an interview with Arabian Business.

Speed dating has become a highly sought-after activity in Dubai, primarily due to the modern approach embraced by Mingle Dxb. Unlike the traditional format, where individuals would awkwardly fill out cards with names and symbols, Hart’s team ensures a more seamless and enjoyable experience. Furthermore, they discourage the exchange of contact information during the speed dating sessions.

Mingle Dxb’s speed dating success can be attributed to offering participants a minimum of 30 dates during each event. Considering the challenges of organizing numerous dates in Dubai, this approach saves considerable time and effort for singles. Hart explained, “If you think about it, how long would it take you in Dubai to go on 30 dates or meet 30 people? It could take years. These are not pre-screened individuals; they are simply 30 nice people who attend with an open mind and the right mindset.”

The dating service has gained a loyal following, hosting various singles events alongside speed dating. Hart proudly shared that Mingle Dxb has facilitated several successful relationships, including long-lasting friendships, among its attendees.

As Dubai singles yearn for genuine connections and authentic experiences, the resurgence of speed dating offers a promising alternative to the digital dating landscape.
