Users experience technical glitches while downloading Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) after ban lift

A few days after the Indian government lifted the ban on Krafton’s popular battle royale game, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), users are facing technical glitches while attempting to download the game. Following the ban lift, excitement surged among Indian gamers who eagerly awaited the opportunity to get back into the action-packed virtual battlegrounds.

Early Monday morning, some fortunate users stumbled upon a link that directed them to the Play Store and App Store, seemingly allowing them to download BGMI. However, the situation quickly turned sour for many as they encountered a frustrating technical problem. Instead of gaining access to the game, they were greeted with the disappointing message, “We’re sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server.”

As users experienced difficulties, they turned to Twitter to voice their complaints about the issue, highlighting their disappointment and frustration. Responding to the concerns, Krafton, the South Korean game developer, confirmed that users were indeed facing challenges while attempting to download BGMI.

In a statement, Krafton clarified the situation, stating that the closed test track for BGMI had been updated. Users who had opted for the public test before the game’s official launch were supposed to receive a message guiding them to the Play Store for downloading the game. However, due to server shutdowns, the link did not work, preventing the game’s download. Krafton acknowledged that some users who had not participated in the closed test were also encountering this error, labeling it as a technical issue that they were actively working to resolve.

Last week, Krafton had announced that the Indian government had granted permission for BGMI to resume operations in the country. Expressing gratitude, CEO of Krafton India, Sean Hyunil Sohn, eagerly welcomed Indian gamers back to the platform, anticipating the game’s availability for download in the near future.

However, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, took to Twitter to clarify that the government had given BGMI a three-month trial approval, contingent on Krafton addressing India’s concerns regarding server locations, data security, and other issues. Chandrasekhar emphasized that the government would closely monitor the game’s impact, including user harm and addiction, before making a final decision.

Krafton’s re-entry into the Indian market with BGMI in July 2021, following the ban on PUBG Mobile, was met with immense popularity. Within a year, BGMI amassed a staggering 100 million registered users in India by July 2022. However, the game was subsequently removed from Google and Apple stores due to a government order, leading to a period of anticipation and uncertainty for Indian gaming enthusiasts.

As Krafton works to resolve the technical issues impeding BGMI’s download, gamers remain hopeful for a swift resolution, eagerly awaiting their chance to once again engage in the thrilling battles of Battlegrounds Mobile India.
