Meesho, the popular Indian e-commerce platform, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the world’s “fastest shopping app” to surpass 500 million cumulative downloads across the Google Play Store and iOS App Store. The achievement was confirmed by data.ai (formerly known as App Annie), a mobile data analytics provider.

Data.ai revealed that Meesho accomplished this feat in just six years, with over half of the app’s total downloads (274 million) occurring in 2022 alone.

The Android version of Meesho’s app is particularly noteworthy, as it is the lightest e-commerce app in India on the Play Store, with a size of only 13.6 MB. This characteristic makes it compatible with low-end smartphones, further contributing to its widespread popularity.

Expressing their excitement about the achievement, Lexi Sydow, Head of Insights at data.ai, stated that they are pleased to partner with Meesho and provide them with valuable insights to support their continued growth.

Megha Agarwal, Meesho’s CXO for user growth, highlighted the immense potential of India’s smartphone and internet user base, which stands at around 750-800 million people. This vast market presents a significant opportunity for Meesho to spearhead the next wave of e-commerce adoption in the country.

Meesho’s success in reaching 500 million downloads reaffirms its position as a leading player in the Indian e-commerce landscape. The platform has gained popularity for its unique business model that enables individuals to start their own online businesses by selling products through social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook.
