Indian online travel aggregator ixigo has joined the generative artificial intelligence (AI) trend by introducing its intelligent trip planner, PLAN, powered by ChatGPT. The company revealed the plugin on Wednesday, providing personalized recommendations and itineraries to travelers based on their current locations. Users can input their desired destination, and PLAN will automatically generate a detailed itinerary and map for the chosen location or theme.
Features and Development of the Plugin
The newly launched plugin integrates real-time weather and air quality index (AQI) updates for the selected destination, allowing users to customize their itineraries and build trip plans on the go. ixigo claims to be the first Indian travel company to develop a ChatGPT plugin. Rajnish Kumar, ixigo’s co-founder and chief product and technology officer (CPTO), stated that the company has been experimenting with OpenAI’s GPT models since 2020, building several internal use-cases on top of the GPT2 model.
Expanding the Offerings and Joining the Generative AI Trend
ixigo’s PLAN has been in development for the past three months and leverages the company’s internal database of images and textual content to enhance its functionality. Kumar mentioned that the company conducted hack weeks to explore different use cases for GPT models and eventually selected the current travel planning use case out of 17 shortlisted ideas. He expressed pride in being the first Indian tech company to have an official plugin on ChatGPT and revealed plans to introduce events, social trends, and real-time social sharing, allowing users to collaborate with friends and family for an interactive trip planning experience.
ixigo joins a growing list of Indian startups embracing generative AI technologies to boost user engagement and introduce innovative offerings. This trend includes companies like Mudrex, Plum, Dukaan, and even Zomato, which recently began experimenting with generative AI. With tech giants like Google and Wipro also investing in AI capabilities, the generative AI space continues to witness significant growth and adoption in the Indian startup ecosystem.
