WhatsApp introduces new voice chat feature for 32-person group conversations

WhatsApp, the widely used chat app with over 2 billion users, is unveiling an exciting addition to its features. According to beta notes released by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s latest beta version 2.23.16.19 for Android introduces a new voice chat feature that enables groups of up to 32 people to engage in spoken sessions.

WhatsApp Enhanced Group Communication with Voice Chats

In this latest beta version, a waveform icon appears within group chats, signaling the availability of the voice chat feature. However, this icon is only visible if the WhatsApp account has activated the feature and if the group is compatible. When tapped, the waveform icon initiates a voice chat, accompanied by its dedicated interface. This setup facilitates seamless interaction, allowing up to 32 participants in the group to join the conversation effortlessly.

WhatsApp Distinctive Traits and User-Friendly Experience

Notably, the new group voice chat feature in WhatsApp distinguishes itself from existing group calls. Unlike conventional group calls that trigger all participants’ phones to ring, the voice chat operates more discreetly, eliminating the simultaneous ringing effect.

Convenient and Secure Communication

Once participants conclude the conversation and leave the chat, the session remains active for an hour before automatically concluding. An essential aspect of WhatsApp’s design ethos, the voice chats benefit from end-to-end encryption, ensuring a high level of privacy and security for users.

Although not a new concept — similar features exist in platforms like Telegram — WhatsApp’s prominence as one of the world’s most widely used chat apps sets it apart. With this new voice chat feature, WhatsApp aims to enhance group communication and offer a seamless, secure, and user-friendly experience to its extensive user base.
