Edtech giant Byju’s has officially named Arjun Mohan as the CEO of its India operations, taking over from Mrinal Mohit, the founding partner and outgoing head of India business at the Bengaluru-based company.
Mohan, a founding team member, and former Chief Business Officer at Byju’s, recently returned to the company. Prior to rejoining Byju’s, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer at another prominent edtech unicorn, upGrad.
While there were initial reports suggesting that Mohan would also lead Byju’s international business, he clarified that he has not been appointed for that role.
Mohan expressed his readiness for the new role, stating, “…While challenges are plenty, I am ready to play my role in helping Byju’s empower our current and future generations to thrive in a rapidly changing world,” as mentioned in a press statement.
Last month, Byju’s experienced the departure of three senior executives: Prathyusha Agarwal (Chief Business Officer), Mukut Deepak (Head of Class 4-10 Business), and Himanshu Bajaj (Head of Tuition Centers).
In response to various challenges such as an auditor’s exit, resignations of key board members, and workforce reductions, Byju’s established a Board Advisory Committee (BAC) tasked with advising founder and CEO Raveendran on board composition and developing an appropriate governance structure for the edtech firm.
