In a bid to make its notable presence in the growing AI field, Mark Zuckerberg-led Meta today announced the launch of a range of AI tools for its sister platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.
As the company stated during the announcement at Connect, the new AI tools are designed to enhance user experiences and connections with their peers on the platform. The newly launched AI tools include AI stickers, image editing with AI, and an AI assistant. Let’s discuss all three, one by one.
AI Stickers
So far, we have been using traditional stickers to express our feelings during conversations. Now, Meta has introduced AI stickers that enable users to generate customized stickers for chats and stories.
By leveraging Llama 2 and its foundational model for image generation, ‘Emu’, the AI tool turns text prompts into multiple high-quality stickers in seconds. Meta said AI stickers will be rolled out for English-speaking users over the next month in WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook Stories.
What is Image Editing with AI?
As the name suggests, “Image Editing with AI” allows users to edit or transform images using artificial intelligence (AI). Meta has stated that users will be able to transform or co-create AI-generated images collaboratively.
Meta plans to introduce this feature on Instagram with two tools. The first, “Restyle,” enables users to reimagine their images by typing in descriptions like ‘watercolour’ to apply different visual styles.
The second tool, “Backdrop,” utilizes the Segment Anything Model to allow users to alter the scene or background of their image through text prompts. For instance, prompts like “put me in front of a sublime aurora borealis” or “surrounded by puppies” will instruct the tool to generate an image with the described background while maintaining the primary subject in the foreground.
Meta AI
As ChatGPT continues to gain popularity and faces increasing competition, Meta has introduced a new AI assistant, ‘Meta AI,’ for WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, and plans to soon extend its availability to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest 3.
Meta asserts that its AI assistant, utilizing Llama 2 and its LLM research, can access real-time information through a partnership with Bing.
Additionally, The AI assistant has the capability to create images. For example, entering “@MetaAI /imagine” followed by a descriptive text prompt like “create a button badge with a hiker and redwood trees,” will result in the creation of a digital merit badge within the chat with your friends.
Meta has introduced AI Studio, which will enable developers to construct their own AIs for use on Meta’s messaging platforms. This will also allow businesses to create AIs to enhance customer service experiences and enable creators to build AIs that extend their virtual presence across Meta’s sister apps.
