Days after Flipkart and Amazon announced the starting date for their festive season sales, ecommerce platform Meesho on Friday said its ‘Meesho Mega Blockbuster Sale’ will commence on October 6.

The ecommerce platform also said that it has launched a loyalty programme to benefit and engage customers and sellers. As per the details available on its website, eligible users can earn virtual coins, called Smart Coins. These coins can be redeemed against purchase of products on the platform.

In a statement, Meesho said over 14 Lakh sellers and 12 Cr product listings across 30 categories will be available on its platform during the festive season this year.

The ecommerce platform said it is expecting about 100% year-on-year growth in the sales of products from categories such as beauty and personal care, kitchen and home appliances, and electronics accessories this festive season.

Meanwhile, Meesho said it has also launched ‘Meesho Gold’, which will have products from categories such as ethnic wear, jewellery, and home & kitchen. These products are curated taking into account factors such as reviews and availability.

Commenting on the preparations for the festive season, Megha Agarwal, CXO of growth at Meeshp, said, “… To fulfil the growing festive demand, we are working with lakhs of sellers as well as emerging and regional brands across the country.”

The ecommerce player said it has onboarded nearly 2 Lakh new sellers ahead of the festive season. The sellers are also gearing up to meet the demand by hiring seasonal workers and increasing storage capacity.

The company said it estimates its sellers to hire about 3 Lakh seasonal workers this season.

Over the years, festive season sales have emerged as an important event for ecommerce platforms as demand surges during this period. As such, preparations by these players are in full swing to prepare for their festive sales.

The festive season sales of Flipkart and Amazon will start on October 8.

Earlier this month, Meesho said it has expanded its presence in the branded space with ‘Meesho Mall’

Last year, Meesho left behind Flipkart to claim the second spot, behind Amazon, in terms of order volume during the first week of the festive season, according to consulting firm Redseer.

Meanwhile, investment firm WestBridge Capital is said to be in talks to buy a stake in Meesho through a secondary transaction.
