Jio showcases high-speed, satellite-based gigabit broadband for connectivity

Reliance Jio has successfully demonstrated India’s inaugural satellite-based giga fiber service, providing high-speed broadband connectivity to previously isolated regions within the country. The demonstration of JioSpaceFiber, their new satellite broadband technology, took place at the India Mobile Congress.

During the event, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, presented Jio’s homegrown technology and products, including JioSpaceFiber, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Jio pavilion. The company plans to offer this service across the entire nation at affordable rates.

Reliance Jio already serves over 450 million Indian consumers with high-speed broadband services, both fixed-line and wireless. To further advance digital inclusion in every Indian household, Jio is adding JioSpaceFiber to its portfolio alongside JioFiber and JioAirFiber.

The satellite network will not only expand access to high-speed broadband but also enhance mobile backhaul capacity, contributing to the deployment of Jio 5G in remote areas of the country.

Jio has partnered with SES to leverage medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology, specifically SES’s O3b and new O3b mPOWER satellites, which can deliver Gigabit, fiber-like services from space. This technology provides scalable and cost-effective broadband coverage throughout India, offering unprecedented reliability and service flexibility, setting a new industry standard.

To showcase its capabilities, JioSpaceFiber has already connected four of the most remote locations in India: Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Nabarangpur in Odisha, and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam.

With JioSpaceFiber, we expand our reach to cover the millions yet to be connected.”
