On-demand streaming service Amazon Prime Video has joined hands with live content, sports statistics and ecommerce marketplace FanCode to offer sports content to its viewers.

Through its partnership, Fancode will offer access to both domestic and international sports events. It will offer over 15 sports, including cricket, football, rugby, kabaddi, basketball, and horse racing, to sports fans in India.

Prime users can access the sports streaming service on the platform after an add-on subscription purchase to FanCode at INR 249 annually, Amazon said.

On the platform, users will be able to watch Carabao Cup, Women’s Big Bash League, FIFA U17 World Cup, Barclays Women’s Super League, AFC Champions League, AFC Cup, and Yuva Kabaddi, among other sports.

Additionally, the subscribers will also be able to stream Super Smash and England tour of West Indies later in the year.

Commenting on the development, Prime Video Channel’s head Vivek Srivastava said, “We are certain that the diversity in programming, and the convenience of enjoying all their favourite sports at a single destination, will delight sport lovers across the country. The addition of FanCode to Prime Video Channels also allows us to offer a comprehensive bouquet of entertainment, from international and local language content to kids-focussed and now live sports.”

Founded by Yannick Colaco and Prasana Krishnan in March 2019, FanCode claims to have streamed more than 45,000 hours of live sports content. With over 100 Mn users, the platform offers interactive live streaming in industry-first subscription formats with Match, Bundle and Tour Passes, along with monthly and annual subscriptions at affordable prices.

Commenting on the partnership, FanCode’s cofounder Colaco said that the platform wants to reach every sports fan across the country and this association with Prime Video is a step in that direction.

The entry of Amazon Prime into the sports arena comes at a time when a big OTT war is prevailing in India. Amid this, it remains to be seen how the competition evolves with the entry of yet another OTT player.
