Chrome’s password safety tool will now automatically run in the background: Here’s what it means for users

Share via:

Google Chrome’s built-in password safety tool, Safety Check, now runs automatically in the background for desktop users. This enables faster alerts for compromised passwords and potential threats. Safety Check previously required manual activation, leaving vulnerable passwords unnoticed. Chrome’s background feature compares saved passwords against a real-time database of known leaks and breaches. In addition to passwords, Safety Check also monitors for malicious extensions, outdated Chrome versions, and lax site permissions. The automatic Safety Check feature is rolling out globally to Chrome desktop users.
