Wipro’s Legal Battle: Ex-CFO Lawsuit Referred to Arbitration by Civil Court

Share via:

The Bengaluru Civil Court has referred the lawsuit initiated by Wipro against its former CFO, Jatin Dalal, to arbitration. This decision came after Dalal produced agreements indicating dispute resolution through arbitration, as reported by Indian Express.

Wipro’s legal action against Dalal stemmed from his move to rival firm Cognizant, which breached the non-compete clause he signed with Wipro. The lawsuit sought damages amounting to Rs 25.15 crore from Dalal, plus an 18% annual interest until payment is settled.

An attempt to acquire Wipro’s perspective on the Court’s decision and subsequent steps yielded no response. HR experts speculate that Wipro’s actions against Dalal aim to establish a precedent for managing future senior-level transitions.

Moreover, Wipro has also taken legal action against another former senior executive, Mohd Haque, who joined Cognizant. However, the allegations against Haque are more severe.

Wipro accuses Haque of possessing confidential files, which he allegedly transferred to his personal email account. When approached for comment on Haque’s case, Wipro declined, stating, “Wipro does not comment on matters that are sub-judice.”
