Namma Yatri, the auto-hailing app on the government-backed open network for digital commerce (ONDC), has expanded its operations by foraying into Delhi.

The app already offers auto services across seven cities, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

Developed by fintech startup Juspay and backed by Nandan Nilekani’s Beckn Foundation, the Namma Yatri app was launched in late 2022. The open network mobility app facilitates direct rides between users and drivers, thereby cutting out aggregators such as Ola and Uber, which charge commissions as high as 30%.

In September last year, the app rolled out two subscription slabs for auto drivers on its platform, which include a flat INR 25 fee per day for unlimited rides. Besides, drivers also have the option of paying INR 3.5 for each ride, post which there will be no levies for the day.

Namma Yatri said that drivers have earned INR 330 Cr on rides through the app over the past year. It has onboarded over 1.7 Lakh drivers and 40 Lakh riders who have booked 20 Mn rides through the app as yet.

Talking to Inc42, Juspay’s chief growth officer Shan M S said, “We have already onboarded 6,000 auto drivers in the national capital and registration of 3,000 auto drivers is already in the pipeline. We aim to grow the number to 50,000 over the next three months.”

“The app already recognises rides to and from Metro as special rides and offers a better service to both drivers and customers. In the coming months, the app will deeply integrate with public transportation through ONDC to offer seamless multi-modal transportation towards sustainable transportation in Delhi,” ONDC said in a statement.

T Koshy, MD and CEO at ONDC, said, “Our vision shared with Namma Yatri is to seamlessly integrate auto-hailing services onto the roads of Delhi, providing reliable and convenient transportation.”

Namma Yatri’s foray into the Delhi market comes a month after the app and ONDC announced  a strategic partnership with  Google Maps to further enhance public transport services in India.
