UPI services were down across several banks, here’s what HDFC bank has said about the outage

On February 6, the entire country witnessed one of the biggest outages in banking services across multiple banks, including HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Kotak Mahindra Bank and others. The outage mainly affected the UPI services offered by banks and rendered several users unable to make or receive payments through UPI.
Soon after NCPI acknowledged the ongoing outage, HDFC Bank also recognised the issue and released a statement with the reason behind the UPI payment failures via a post on the microblogging platform, X.
Here’s what the post read, “We experienced some difficulties on UPI due to some multi bank system issues. We are back in operations now and regret any inconvenience faced.”
Why UPI services were down
Among all the banks that faced the UPI outage, HDFC Bank is the only one that has released the reason behind the outage. According to HDFC Bank’s official statement, HDFC Bank users were facing issues while making UPI payments due to some multi bank systems not working properly. Also, HDFC confirmed that they’ve fixed the issue and the services are back online.
What was the issue?
Several users started facing some problems while making UPI payments via UPI-based apps and services like Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, etc. Several users reported on X that they are facing issues while making payments using UPI. As per the reports, the outage affected UPI services for banks like HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
The UPI services are back online now and users can make payments without any issues.
