Healthtech startup Butterfly Learnings has raised INR 32 Cr ($3.8 Mn) as part of a Series A funding round led by Insitor Impact Asia Fund (via Fund II) and Enzia Ventures.

The round also saw participation from existing investors IIMA Ventures (venture arm of IIM Ahmedabad), Foundation Botnar, 9 Unicorns and Venture Catalysts.

The startup will utilise the fresh funds to expand its footprint to new states and scale up its tech-enabled therapy programmes. A part of the capital will also be deployed to increase the number of its brick and mortar centres to 200 in the near future.

“This funding infusion will propel our mission forward, empowering us to expedite the delivery of accessible and evidence-based paediatric behavioural and developmental health solutions to families across India, said Butterfly Learnings’ cofounder and CEO Sonam Kothari.

Commenting on the fundraise, Insitor Impact Asia Fund’s cofounder and chief investment officer (CIO) Nicholas Lazos added, “Sonam and Abhishek have successfully leveraged their extensive clinical and technological expertise to offer an evidence-based, technology-enabled therapy solution for children. We enthusiastically support them in this next phase of growth”.

Founded in 2021 by Kothari and Abhishek Sen, Butterfly Learnings helps children suffering from neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) and behavioural issues through applied behavioural analysis (ABA), speech therapy and occupational therapy.

The company operates as a phygital platform that offers tailored support for children and families facing challenges related to neurodiversity. The startup also operates 30 centers across Maharashtra and claims to currently serve nearly 2,000 families.

With more than 250 in-house trained therapists, the Mumbai-based startup also has a presence in adjoining urban areas such as Pune, Nagpur and Nasik.

The startup last raised $2 Mn in funding from the likes of Insitor Partners, 9 Unicorns, among others back in 2022. It competes with players such as KinderPass, among others.

Butterfly Learning also featured in the October 2022 edition of Inc42’s “30 Startups To Watch”, a curated list of budding sector-agnostic startups.

Butterfly Learnings aims to cater to the growing number of parents whose kids suffer from NDDs. As per a report, one in six children in India aged between two and nine suffers from at least one type of NDD. On top of that, young adults, aged 7-15, also suffer from other behavioural disorders such as depression and other functional impairments.
