Months after quitting fintech unicorn BharatPe, Ankur Jain has officially announced the launch of his new venture, generative AI (GenAI)-based startup Jivi AI.
In a LinkedIn post, the former chief product officer (CPO) of BharatPe said that Jivi AI will look to use “generative AI to improve healthcare outcomes for 8 Bn people”.
As per the startup’s website, it is led by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, data scientists, engineers, and designers, coming from Ivy League colleges, “all working towards leveraging AI to transform healthcare”.
As per the startup’s LinkedIn page, Jivi was launched in December 2023 and Jain serves as its cofounder and CEO. It currently employs 16 people, including former BharatPe employees like Alok Srivastava, Saurabh Kumar, and Rajat Jain.
Inc42 has reached out to Jain to understand the services that the startup will offer. The article will be updated on receiving a response.
The development comes six months after it was reported that Jain stepped down from his role at BharatPe after a 3.5 year stint to launch his own AI-ML startup. He joined the fintech major in 2020 as its CPO and later took up the chief product & technology officer (CPTO) role in 2022.
However, it is pertinent to note that this isn’t the first time that Jain has forayed into the AI space. Prior to joining BharatPe, he served as the cofounder and CEO of his prior entrepreneurial venture Instalocate for three years. The California-based startup offered an AI assistant to automate day-to-day activities like predicting health, scheduling meetings, or managing travel.
With the latest development, Jain has joined the long list of former BharatPe executives who have started their own startups. Earlier this month, it was reported that former BharatPe MD Ashneer Grover has launched a lending tech startup ZeroPe. The startup, which will provide medical loans up to INR 5 Lakh, is his second venture after the launch of fantasy cricket app CrickPe last year.
Meanwhile, Vijay Aggarwal, who served as the CTO of the fintech unicorn till 2022, launched CubeAPM in January 2023. Further, Nehul Malhotra, former head of BharatPe’s consumer product-PostPe; Rajat Jain, former chief product officer of lending and consumer products; and Geetanshu Singla, former vice president of technology at BharatPe, came together to set up a lifestyle app for the elderly, GenWise, in 2023.
Besides, Tanmay Sagar and Satyam Nathani, founding members of BharatPe, along with Bhavik Koladiya, former cofounder and tech lead of BharatPe, launched a fintech SaaS platform OTPless.
Jain’s reentry into the AI space comes at a time when the Indian GenAI market is heating up in terms of investments.
Startups like Bhavish Aggarwal-led Krutrim AI, Vodex, Arya.AI, and SydeLabs have raised funding in recent months. The Indian GenAI market is projected to cross the $17 Bn mark by 2030, growing from $1.1 Bn in 2023.
