Amazon India signed a MoU with the union labour ministry to post work opportunities at Amazon’s corporate offices and operations network on the National Career Service (NCS) portal

The collaboration will also involve job fairs at Model Career Centres (MCCs). It’ll also facilitate local hiring in fields such as logistics, technology and customer service.

Amazon claims to have created over 13 Lakh direct and indirect jobs in India

Amazon India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the ministry of labour and employment to post work opportunities at Amazon’s corporate offices and operations network on the National Career Service (NCS) portal.

The collaboration will also involve job fairs at Model Career Centres (MCCs). It’ll also facilitate local hiring in fields such as logistics, technology and customer service.

Commenting on the collaboration, union labour minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that integration with the NCS portal will reduce hiring costs and time and streamline the hiring of verified professionals.

“We are in the process of upgrading the NCS portal. The enhanced platform will offer a more user-friendly interface for jobseekers, employers, and stakeholders, utilising advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI),” said Mandaviya.

Further, the portal has an average of 15-18 Lakh job opportunities listed on the platform. Currently, the NCS claims to have over 60 Lakh active job seekers and 33.50 Lakh active employers.

Amazon claims to have created over 13 Lakh direct and indirect jobs in India.

Earlier this month, the company also claimed to have created more than 1.1 Lakh seasonal “job opportunities” in the country ahead of the start of its flagship festive season sale.

Meanwhile, the ecommerce giant continues to face regulatory issues in the country. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has reportedly sought turnover details from Amazon and its rival Flipkart to determine the penalty to be imposed on them after the antitrust body found both the entities guilty of violating the country’s competition laws. The companies are facing a penalty of up to 10% of their global annual turnover.

Amid all these, former Amazon seller Appario has reportedly moved the Karnataka High Court seeking to quash the CCI probe against Amazon.

Appario was a joint venture between Amazon and Patni Group-owned Zodiac Wealth Management. The seller was one of the companies named in the CCI’s report. In 2022, the watchdog even raided Appario and some other sellers as part of its larger investigations into Amazon.
