Uber is set to pilot its shuttle service in Hyderabad and Mumbai, following its launches in Kolkata and Delhi.

Uber is also in talks with multiple stakeholders to launch a similar service in Bengaluru.

India became the second country after Egypt where Uber operates buses as part of its Uber Shuttle service.

Ride-hailing major Uber is set to pilot its shuttle service in Hyderabad and Mumbai, following its launches in Kolkata and Delhi.

Uber is also in talks with multiple stakeholders to launch a similar service in Bengaluru, news agency PTI reported.

“We need regulatory go ahead to be able to launch a service like this and we have not been able to receive that. We are in active dialogues with multiple stakeholders and we are hoping to be able to get a green light to do that but right now we don’t have visibility of it,” Prabhjeet Singh, president of Uber India and South Asia, said on the Bengaluru launch plans.

According to Singh, the service could co-exist with alternative public transportation options which are there in the city. “I am hoping that the policymakers are far more open to innovations like this,” he added.

Notably, India became the second country after Egypt where Uber operates buses as part of its Uber Shuttle service.

Currently, Uber Shuttle operates in Kolkata under an MoU with the West Bengal government. In Delhi, the service was launched in May this year after conducting a pilot programme in 2023.

India is an important market for Uber and the company has been launching a number of new services and expanding current offerings to grow its revenue. Earlier this year, Uber partnered with IPO-bound logistics services provider ShadowFax to integrate the latter’s two-wheeler fleet with the ride-hailing major’s UberMoto bike taxi offering.

The company also relaunched its high-end Uber Black service in India, starting with Mumbai, after a gap of almost a decade.

Notably, Adani Group is also reportedly seeking a strategic partnership with the ride-hailing major to roll out its electric passenger cars.

Uber also launched its ‘Uber Green’ in select cities of India, starting with Bengaluru in 2023. The latest addition to this was Kolkata, where it was launched in June this year.
