Trump appoints Indian-origin entrepreneur & Musk’s aide Sriram Krishnan as policy advisor for AI

President-elect Donald J. Trump on Sunday announced the appointment of Elon Musk‘s aide and former Microsoft employee, who is now an entrepreneur, Sriram Krishnan as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump said, “Sriram Krishnan will focus on ensuring continued American leadership in AI and help shape and coordinate AI policy across Government, including working with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.”

Indian-origin entrepreneur Krishnan, who began his career as a founding member of Windows Azure at Microsoft, will collaborate closely with David Sacks, another prominent figure in technology and policy.

Responding to Trump’s announcement, Krishnan, who was born in Chennai, expressed his gratitude and commitment to the role.

“I’m honored to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI, working closely with David Sacks. Thank you, @realDonaldTrump, for this opportunity,” he said in a post on X.

Who is Sriram Krishnan?

Born in Chennai, India, to a middle-income Tamil family, six-foot-six Krishnan’s passion for technology began in the late 1990s when he taught himself coding despite not having internet access. This determination led him to pursue a degree in Information Technology at SRM Engineering College, Anna University, graduating in 2005.

Krishnan has an illustrious career at leading tech giants, including Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, and Snap. At Facebook, he built the Facebook Audience Network, a key competitor to Google’s ad technologies, and at Twitter, he drove major product innovations, achieving significant user growth. In 2021, he joined Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a general partner, focusing on investments in emerging technologies like Web3 and AI.

In 2022, Krishnan gained attention for working with Elon Musk on Twitter’s transformation following Musk’s acquisition of the platform. His insights into AI and social media trends have made him a thought leader, further enhancing his reputation.

Beyond technology, Krishnan co-hosts The Aarthi and Sriram Show with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy. The podcast, featuring high-profile guests like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, has become a hit with millions of downloads. The couple, often referred to as a “tech power duo,” resides in London.
