Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, has revealed plans to develop advanced AI infrastructure in Jamnagar, the city referred to as the “Jewel of the Reliance family”.

Speaking at an event organised to mark the 25th anniversary of the Jamnagar Refinery, Akash Ambani said, “We’re committed to completing the ambitious project within 24 months. The Reliance Industries Limited director, accompanied by siblings Isha and Anant Ambani, emphasised their collective vision to ensure the company’s growth.

He said, “The AI infrastructure we are beginning to build in Jamnagar will not only make the city a leader in AI technology but will position it among the world’s top-ranked cities.” He added, “We’ve already started constructing this in Jamnagar, and we plan to finish it in true Jamnagar style — fast and efficiently, as we always have, within 24 months.”

Proclaiming his dedication to Reliance’s legacy, Akash said, “Isha, Anant, and I commit to growing Reliance together, ensuring that Jamnagar will remain the jewel of our Reliance family. This commitment extends to our entire Reliance family, including my parents.”

He exuded confidence in Jamnagar’s future, emphasising Reliance’s goal to establish the city as a global leader in the rapidly evolving realm of information and technology.

The Jamnagar refinery, Reliance’s first refinery, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. It was opened on December 28, 1999, and has grown into the largest refining hub in the world.

At the time of inception, the project faced scepticism from global experts who doubted the viability of constructing such a large-scale refinery in a remote, arid area devoid of basic infrastructure like roads, electricity, or drinking water. Defying these doubts, Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani transformed Jamnagar into a world-class industrial and technological hub.

Under Dhirubhai’s visionary leadership, the refinery was completed in 33 months, overcoming challenges like severe cyclones and complex logistical issues. His foresight turned a barren landscape into a thriving industrial “Nandanwan”, an oasis of innovation and growth.

Jamnagar houses some of the world’s largest and most advanced facilities, including the Fluidised Catalytic Cracker (FCC), Coker, Alkylation, Paraxylene, Polypropylene, Refinery Off-Gas Cracker (ROGC), and Petcoke gasification plants.

Reliance is committed to developing Jamnagar as it looks to transform the city and position it as a leader in an AI-driven future.
