Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, during his keynote session at the Microsoft AI Tour in Bengaluru, announced the tech giant’s $3 billion investment to accelerate India’s AI and cloud ecosystem.

This expansion, Nadella noted, marks Microsoft’s largest-ever expansion ever done in the country. “This is the golden age for systems when it comes to innovation,” he said.

He outlined Microsoft’s vision to empower developers and businesses to harness the power of AI, stating that the next 12 months will be crucial as developers integrate cutting-edge tools into their workflows.

Nadella said Microsoft’s approach to AI focuses on embedding Copilot technology directly into existing workflows, enabling seamless user adoption.

The next thing we are thinking about is extensibility,” he added, hinting at future innovations that could further expand AI’s reach and functionality.

On the debate around scaling laws in AI, Nadella affirmed, “The law is great and absolutely still works.”

He elaborated on Microsoft’s comprehensive approach to AI, which encompasses the entire compute stack. The company has built an extensive network of over 300 data centres globally to support AI workloads and ensure reliability at scale.

Nadella said that “AI doesn’t sit on its own” adding that Microsoft is building the required compute stack. He also highlighted that the tech giant has more than 300 data centres around the world.

Nadella also shared details of his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he discussed Microsoft’s vision for India’s tech landscape. The CEO met PM Modi on Monday where they discussed a wide range of topics, including technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and innovation.
