US tech giants Microsoft and OpenAI have raised questions about the overnight success and fame of Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) startup DeepSeek, alleging that the company used the ChatGPT maker’s proprietary models without permission.

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that the companies are probing whether data output from OpenAI’s technology was obtained in an unauthorised manner by a group linked to DeepSeek.
