S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), on Tuesday said the government is trying to strike a balance between using open-source models to build the country’s first foundational artificial intelligence model, and harnessing the power of existing models, such as OpenAI’s models.

Krishnan, speaking at a townhall organised by CNBC-TV18, said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who will visit India this week, is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology…
