Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine tool, is now available on the Paytm app on both Android and iPhone. Several users spotted it listed as a feature titled ‘Ask AI’ in the ‘FREE TOOLS’ section on the home page.

The feature bundles Perplexity AI inside the app. Users can ask their queries, to which the tool will provide responses with citations on a Perplexity interface.

Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the CEO of Paytm, has long been a fan of Perplexity AI. Last year, he said on X that it is his go-to search engine platform. In another instance, he said, “Perplexity is perpetually intelligent.”

Perplexity is also betting big on India, which has the second-largestnumber of AI users in the world. Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity AI, recently announced plans to recruit talent to expand the company’s presence in India.

“I am looking to recruit someone to work together on growing Perplexity in India. It will be fun and intense. You must be based in India and willing to travel and meet with strategic partners and institutions—scrappy startup mode,” said Srinivas in a LinkedIn post.

Earlier, Srinivas, in a post on X, expressed his support for the development of AI in India.

“I am ready to invest $1 mn personally and 5 hours per week of my time into the most qualified group of people that can do this right now to make India great again in the context of AI,” he said.

Moreover, he added that he would invest an additional $10 million if the team aims to beat the latest DeepSeek-R1 model on all benchmarks with rigour.

Recently, Perplexity launched its version of Deep Research, a feature that performs multiple searches, reviews hundreds of sources, and compiles findings into comprehensive reports. It is free for everyone, with up to five queries per day for non-subscribers and 500 queries per day for Pro users.

According to Perplexity, Deep Research can handle expert-level tasks in finance, marketing, product research, and other domains. The company states, “We believe everyone should have access to powerful research tools.”
