Workplace communication platform Slack is currently facing a major outage which has affected users globally. The issue spans multiple functionalities, including login/SSO, messaging, connectivity, file sharing, API integrations, and workflows.
Slack’s tech dashboard first flagged the problem at 8:57 PM, reporting difficulties with connecting and loading the platform.
According to DownDetector, a website that tracks online outages, around 3,100 users reported issues with Slack at its peak at 10 PM. As of 11:12 PM, the number of reports had dropped to about 1,400.
“We’re investigating reports of trouble connecting or loading Slack, we’ll provide another update once we have news to share,” the company said on its dashboard.
In its latest update, Slack said, “Our investigation is still in progress with regard to deprecated functionality for Slack features such as workflows, threads, sending messages and API-related features. We’ll be back with more updates as soon as they’re available.”
The company is yet to provide an estimated timeline for a full resolution.
The Salesforce-owned platform faced connectivity issues last month as well.
Other major tech companies like OpenAI and Meta also faced outages in the recent past. In January this year, OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT faced a major outage that lasted for about 3 hours.
This was after Meta’s Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram went down across India for several users in December last year. Meta has faced multiple outages in India over the last year or so.
In June last year, WhatsApp and Instagram faced outages across India, leaving users unable to access their accounts. Just a month prior to that, Instagram faced an outage that impacted thousands of users globally.
