Perplexity AI, the popular AI-powered answer engine, has officially launched its chatbot on WhatsApp, making it easier for users to access its services directly within the messaging app. The announcement was made by Aravind Srinivas, Co-founder and CEO of Perplexity AI, via a LinkedIn post on Monday. This rollout follows a recent user poll where Srinivas gauged interest in a WhatsApp integration.
Previously available on Telegram (as @askplexbot) and X (formerly Twitter), the new WhatsApp integration marks Perplexity’s latest move to bring AI tools closer to users. Unlike the standalone app, which requires signing up, WhatsApp users can start chatting with the bot instantly, with no login needed. This also helps reduce app clutter and saves device storage.
Once added via +1 (833) 436-3285, users can interact with Perplexity to ask questions, research topics, summarize content, and even generate images—all for free. The goal is to make AI-driven knowledge more accessible, especially in regions where WhatsApp is the dominant communication platform.
Srinivas also shared that new features are on the way, including voice mode, memes, videos, fact-checks, and assistant-style interactions. Group chat support is in the pipeline, although current WhatsApp API limitations delay its rollout.
Perplexity recently enhanced its iOS app with new voice and assistant features, building on similar tools already available for Android users.
