Indian quick commerce platforms are once again catching social media attention with a witty marketing gag. A user on X shared that searching the word “appraisal” on Zepto brings up listings for peanuts, a cheeky nod to underwhelming salary hikes often linked to the annual appraisal season.
The post, shared by marketing professional Harshita, quickly went viral, with users appreciating the humor. She clarified that it wasn’t a sponsored post, but simply a marketer’s curiosity on a holiday. Soon after, others on LinkedIn and X shared similar discoveries on Swiggy Instamart and Blinkit, where searches for “appraisal” returned peanut chikki and even kitchen utensils.
None of the platforms have officially confirmed whether this was a coordinated campaign or just a perfectly timed coincidence. However, Zepto did previously post a humorous Instagram reel showing employees giving their boss “butter” (as flattery) and receiving peanuts in return.
This isn’t the first time quick commerce brands have jumped on trending moments. Earlier, when a video went viral of a man mishearing “croissant” as “Prashant”, platforms like Swiggy, Blinkit, and Zepto capitalized on the trend. They showcased a variety of croissants available for order when users searched for either term.
