Karnataka HC upholds Centre’s takedown powers, rejects X Corp plea

In a setback for Elon Musk-backed X Corp, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed the company’s plea challenging the Centre’s content takedown orders, ruling that the challenge was “without merit.”
The court observed that social media cannot be left in a state of “anarchic freedom” and stressed that unregulated speech could lead to lawlessness. “No social media platform can feign exemption from the law of the land. India cannot be treated as a playground in disregard of its laws,” the bench noted.
