Luxembourg space telecommunications firm OQ Technology has just received government approval to launch a new kind of satellite 5G network in the country. 

Normally, 5G networks rely on cell towers on the ground. But OQ’s system uses satellites to connect devices directly, enabling phones or IoT devices like smart metres or sensors to access 5G even in remote areas without traditional cell towers, known as white zones.
