Anthropic claims Chinese hackers used its AI platform to launch automated cyberattack

American AI company Anthropic recently detected and disrupted a major cyberattack allegedly carried out by a group linked to the Chinese government agencies. The attack was discovered when an unusual activity was detected involving one of its AI tools, Claude Code, Anthropic disclosed in its report.

In September 2025, the security teams noticed that the Chinese group had manipulated the AI to attempt cyberattacks on around 30 major targets, including tech companies, financial institutions, chemical manufacturing companies, and government agencies.
