
In the early days of the internet, centering something on a webpage was easy: Just put a <center> tag on it.
When it revised the HTML to version 4.0, however, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) deprecated the center tag, in its enthusiasm for separation of concerns. Ease of use was sacrificed for architectural purity. And centering things somehow became the province of Cascading Style Sheets.
