Last September, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) unleashed teams of robots on data-linked-post=”2650274270″ href=”https://spectrum.ieee.org/do-we-want-robot-warriors-to-decide-who-lives-or-dies” target=”_blank”>simulated mass-casualty scenarios, including an airplane crash and a night ambush. The robots’ job was to find victims and estimate the severity of their injuries, with the goal of data-linked-post=”2667038920″ href=”https://spectrum.ieee.org/ai-doctor” target=”_blank”>helping human medics get to the people who need them the most.
