Meta is bringing AI-edited video ads to Facebook and Instagram

The next time you scroll through your Instagram and Facebook feed, you might see a video ad edited with AI. That’s because Meta is testing new AI video editing capabilities that will allow advertisers to animate an image as well as expand the borders of a video.

Advertisers can turn a still image into a video.

With the AI animation tool, advertisers can upload a static image and then use Meta’s tool to “generate” a video. As seen in this example, Meta’s AI tool makes the strawberries in the background slowly float around the jar.

The new tools can also make an existing video larger. It uses AI to generate “unseen pixels in each video frame” to increase its size, sort of like how some AI image editing tools allow you to expand the background of an image. Meta is starting to roll out these features now and plans to make them more widely available early next year.
