Google co-founder Larry Page has founded an AI manufacturing startup

Larry Page, the tech billionaire who co-founded Google with Sergey Brin, is setting up a new company focused on AI applications in product manufacturing.

The new AI startup called Dynatomics is looking to develop AI products that create “highly optimised” design renderings of objects that can eventually be manufactured in factories, according to a report by The Information.

The Dynatomics team currently comprises a small group of AI developers and engineers led by Chris Anderson, who previously worked as chief technology officer (CTO) of an electric airplane startup called Kittyhawk.

The now-shuttered ‘flying car’ startup had been backed by Larry Page and aimed to develop small electric vehicles that could fly.

Several other tech startups are also exploring how AI could be used to enhance efficiency in manufacturing. Orbital Materials, for instance, is working on an AI platform for discovering new materials that can be used to manufacture batteries and carbon dioxide-capturing cells.

Meanwhile, PhysicsX offers AI-generated simulations for engineers working in the automotive and aerospace industries.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin officially stepped down from their positions at parent company Alphabet in 2019, with Sundar Pichai taking over the role of CEO of Google as well as Alphabet.
