Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair has reported receiving serious threats to his life after his personal details, including his address and phone number, were leaked on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). On May 13, 2025, he filed a formal complaint with the Bengaluru police, stating that individuals online had threatened to send pork to his home—an act intended to provoke communal tensions and jeopardize his family’s safety.
Zubair revealed this wasn’t the first such incident. In 2023, someone had actually sent pork to his house and shared the delivery information online. He expressed disappointment that police had closed that earlier case without proper follow-up.
In his latest complaint, Zubair has requested intervention from senior police officials, urging them to take the threats seriously and protect him and his family. While the police have acknowledged his complaint, an FIR has not yet been registered. Authorities mentioned the case would be forwarded to the local RT Nagar police station, where Zubair lives.
The incident highlights the growing threats faced by journalists and fact-checkers in India, especially those who challenge hate speech and misinformation.
