On Thursday, May 29, Perplexity introduced a new feature called Labs, designed to help users create spreadsheets, dashboards, and web apps within minutes. Exclusive to Pro subscribers, Labs is pitched as a virtual team that helps bring ideas to life quickly and efficiently.
According to a blog post by the company, Labs performs over 10 minutes of autonomous work using various tools—such as deep web browsing, code execution, and visual content generation—to convert user ideas into functional outputs. It can write and run code to organize data, apply formulas, and generate content like charts, documents, and spreadsheets. All assets, including files, charts, and code, are downloadable via an “Assets” tab, while the “App” tab allows users to build and deploy interactive web apps, websites, and presentations without the need for external development tools.
Perplexity claims Labs can complete tasks that typically require days or even weeks of manual effort and cross-functional expertise. It’s aimed at users looking to launch marketing campaigns, analyze finances, plan meals, or build simple web apps—all without any coding knowledge.
Labs is now live on Perplexity’s web, Android, and iOS platforms, accessible via the mode selector in the input bar. Support for Mac and Windows apps is expected soon. Meanwhile, the company also announced that its “Deep Research” feature has been renamed to simply “Research,” noting that while Labs is ideal for deeper, hands-on work, Research remains the quickest way to get comprehensive answers.
