Elon Musk’s ambitions to reinvent X (formerly Twitter) took a step forward this weekend with the launch of XChat, a new messaging feature that promises end-to-end encryption, vanishing messages, file sharing, and voice/video calling.

In a post on Sunday, Musk described XChat as “all new,” touting features that push the platform further into the territory of private, secure communication. “Also, audio/video calling,” Musk added, positioning XChat as a direct competitor to platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal.
