Reddit is jumping on the bandwagon by testing a new “official” badge feature. The company announced that it is currently testing these labels on a small set of profiles to validate their authenticity. The official badge will appear as a flair next to the username, signifying the profile’s legitimacy.
Reddit – Limited Availability and Platform Support
Reddit clarified that the official label is currently visible only on its iOS and Android apps. For now, the testing phase is limited to a small number of profiles belonging to organizations with pre-existing relationships with Reddit. These organizations express interest in engaging with Redditors and communities on the platform.
The social network did not specify whether there will be an application process or any associated charge for verification when the feature expands to include other organizations or users.
Reddit – Improvements in Automod Notifications
In addition to the official badge testing, Reddit is rolling out a change to automod notifications. The moderator bot will now run checks on comments or replies to ensure compliance with Reddit’s rules. Only if a post is not removed, will the system send notifications to users. This aims to eliminate confusion caused by ghost notifications, where users would click on a notification only to find that the post no longer exists.
Focus on Accessibility Features
To address community protests over Reddit’s API changes that affected accessibility features in many apps, the company is now working on enhancing accessibility on its own apps. In a separate post, Reddit outlined its roadmap for the rollout of accessibility features.
Parts of the service, such as the left navigation menu, profile drawer, bottom tab bar (including buttons for creating a post, Chat, and Inbox), Community page, post detail page, and Home & Popular feeds, will become compatible with screen readers starting next month.
Community Protests Continue
Despite Reddit’s efforts to address accessibility concerns, community members are still expressing dissatisfaction with the platform’s recent changes. Some users took to r/Place, a collaborative event on Reddit, to protest these modifications.
Additionally, moderators have voiced their frustration with Reddit’s lack of response to feedback and concerns. The company is now pledging to reach out to users next week to address their grievances and provide clarity on the ongoing changes to the platform.
