WhatsApp updates: Hacks every user must know

WhatsApp has been rolling out a series of updates in recent weeks, offering users new ways to enhance their messaging experience. Here are some handy ‘hacks’ to make the most of the instant messaging app.

Send Video Messages with Ease

One of the latest updates introduces instant video messages, allowing users to create and share short personal videos directly within their chats. To send a video message, users can switch to video mode with a tap and record by holding down the button. Videos will play silently in chats and sound can be activated by tapping on the video. End-to-end encryption ensures the privacy and security of these video messages.

Edit Messages After Sending

A notable addition is the ability to edit messages after they’ve been sent. Users can correct typos or add context within fifteen minutes of sending a message. By pressing and holding the message, users can select the ‘Edit’ option from the menu. Edited messages labelled as such, providing transparency without revealing the full editing history. End-to-end encryption safeguards both the original and edited content.

Secure Private Chats with Chat Lock

WhatsApp introduces Chat Lock, a feature that adds an extra layer of protection to private conversations. Specific chat threads can be locked behind an additional password or biometric authentication, such as a fingerprint scan. These chats are hidden from notifications, making this feature particularly useful when sharing devices with family members. Users will soon have the option to set a distinct password for chats, separate from their device’s primary security password.

Group Admins Gain Message Deletion Control

To tackle abusive messages, WhatsApp empowers group administrators to delete messages for all members. Admins can click “delete for everyone” to remove incoming messages within the group. However, the initiator’s name associated with the deleted message, preserving transparency. This feature helps maintain a positive group environment by allowing admins to moderate content.

Enhanced Privacy Measures

WhatsApp continues to prioritize privacy. The Silence Unknown Callers feature guards against spam and fraudulent calls, ensuring users’ phones won’t ring for unfamiliar contacts. These calls will appear in the Call list. This update is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for its users. Other recent privacy features include Chat Lock, Disappearing Messages, screenshot prevention for View Once media, and options to manage online presence.

With these updates, WhatsApp aims to provide users with more control over their messaging experience and greater privacy protection. As the platform evolves, users can look forward to even more innovative features in the future.
