Since its acquisition by Elon Musk, X (formerly known as Twitter) has undergone a series of transformative changes, including a complete platform rebranding. Now CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed that video calls will be a new feature coming to the service. The feature is a part of its transformation into an “everything app.”

Strong Performance and Expansion into New Avenues

“I’ve worked at the company for eight weeks,” stated Yaccarino. “Right now, our operational run rate brings us quite close to breaking even.” She highlighted the achievements of data licensing and the API business under X, along with the rapid expansion of the recently introduced subscription model. As CEO, Yaccarino stressed her autonomy. While Musk concentrates on technological innovation, she takes charge of the platform’s broader aspects.

X Embracing Video Calls and More

Anticipating the needs of users, Yaccarino revealed, “you’ll be able to make video chat calls without having to give your phone number to anyone on the platform.” She also discussed forthcoming features such as long-form videos and creator subscriptions, hinting at the company’s expanding offerings and its commitment to user engagement.

Musk’s Vision for X Evolution

Elon Musk’s aspiration for Twitter to become a comprehensive “everything app,” mirroring China’s WeChat, has been a guiding principle since his acquisition of the company for $44 billion. His goal to transform Twitter into “X, the everything app” highlights his ambitious vision for the platform’s evolution, capitalizing on its widespread reach and potential.

Musk’s Training and Potential Clash with Meta’s Zuckerberg

Yaccarino commented on the ongoing rivalry between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta. Yaccarino said, “We’ll see if that cage match really does happen. I can confirm I’ve observed Musk’s preparation firsthand.” This adds depth to the evolving story of X’s transformation and its potential effects on social media.
