Instagram’s newly launched Threads app has made a massive impact, attracting a significant portion of Twitter’s weekly active user base, marking a remarkable success for Meta and its subsidiary, Instagram.

Within just the first week of its release, Threads has garnered an impressive user base, with more than 100 million users downloading the app, according to Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram.

Data provided by app intelligence firm data.ai reveals that Threads has achieved around 93 million active users globally in its first week, accounting for one-fifth of Twitter’s weekly active user base. India accounted for 33% of the app’s global downloads, followed by Brazil with 22%, the US with 16%, Japan with 8%, and Mexico with 5%.

The app’s popularity continues to soar, with over 150 million downloads recorded at the time of writing, making it one of the fastest-growing apps ever. Notably, Threads achieved this milestone in just six days, outpacing Niantic’s Pokemon Go by 5.5 times.

Threads’ remarkable success is challenging the social networking industry and signaling a digital battle between platforms. Instagram’s venture into the text-based platform arena is already making waves and capturing the attention of millions of users worldwide.
