Elon Musk’s social media platform X has withheld access to several parody and activist accounts in India, citing “legal demand,” in a fresh wave of content restrictions that has triggered free speech concerns.
The development comes just a day after CNBC-TV18 reported that the government is mulling widening content takedown powers beyond the IT Ministry.
Users attempting to access the blocked profiles are shown a standard notice stating: “Account withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.”
