After moving on from Xiaomi in January this year, Manu Kumar Jain has now joined G42, an Abu Dhabi-based AI company, to lead its India expansion.
Announcing his transition on social media platforms, Jain said, “After building the largest smartphone company [Xiaomi] and one of the biggest fashion ecommerce companies [Jabong.com] in India, I am embarking on a new and exciting adventure. I am delighted to announce that I am joining G42, a leading global AI company, to kickstart a new AI business in India,” he added.
Meanwhile, G42, too, announced its India expansion plans, along with Jain’s appointment, in a social media post.
“Leading us into this new chapter of G42’s growth story is Manu Kumar Jain, a name synonymous with transformative leadership and ground-breaking success in the consumer technology sector,” the company’s social media post read.
G42 provides a wide range of AI solutions across industries such as aviation, cloud computation, and others, as well as works on AI research.
Jain served Xiaomi for over eight years. First, he led the company’s India operations. He then became Xiaomi Group’s global vice-president in 2017. Later, he started heading Xiaomi’s business in South Asia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka, along with India.
Last year, when the company came under the government’s scanner for allegedly violating the FEMA Act, Jain was also quizzed by the ED. Amid challenges escalating for the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Jain quit the tech company earlier this year.
Jain is an IIT Delhi and IIM Calcutta alumnus. At the time of stepping down from Xiaomi, he had hinted at building something new, ‘ideally in a new industry’.
