Facebook and Instagram going ad-free in Europe, but for a price

Share via:

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is introducing a subscription plan for European users to have an ad-free experience. Starting in November, users in the European Union, European Economic Area, and Switzerland can choose to either view personalised ads for free or pay €9.99 on the web and €12.99 on iOS and Android to stop seeing ads. Subscribers’ data will also not be used for advertising. However, there will be an additional fee for linked accounts starting March 1st, 2024. The move comes as Meta aims to address concerns over ad targeting and data collection practices in Europe.
