Google Play Store removed Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the Indian version of the popular multiplayer game PUBG. New State, a more recent game from PUBG owner Krafton, is still available for download.

“We are clarifying how BGMI was removed from the Google Play store and the App store and will let you know once we get specific information,” a Krafton spokesperson said. After the government banned PUBG as part of its action against Chinese apps in September 2020, the South Korean gaming giant launched BGMI in India in 2021. Tencent of China published PUBG Mobile in India. BGMI, which looked and played similarly to PUBG, was only available in India. Within a year of its launch, BGMI’s user base on iPhone and Android had surpassed 100 million.
